Celebrate Juneteenth in Greater Boston: Community Parades, Festivals, and Freedom Cookout
As Juneteenth rapidly approaches, Greater Boston is coming together to honor Black history, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of freedom.
If you’re looking for meaningful ways to celebrate and connect this year, here are two community-led Juneteenth events you can participate in.
Note: Mass 50501 did not organize these events, but we call on you to support the organizations that did.
Cambridge Juneteenth Parade & Festival
The Cambridge Juneteenth Committee (CJC), a small committee of women of color, is hosting a community-focused Juneteenth Parade and Festival on June 19th from 10AM to 4PM. This family-friendly event will bring together neighbors, local businesses, and organizations for a day of celebration and reflection.
Parade: 10AM (Starting at Mass Ave. and Pleasant St.)
Festival: 11AM–4PM (Riverside Press Park)
Location: Cambridge, MA
Enjoy games, music, delicious food, a book fair, and local vendors. Whether you’re coming with family or friends, there’s something for everyone.
Mass 50501 will have an info table there with exclusive Juneteenth merch; stop by and say hi, and grab some merch while supplies last!
3rd Annual Freedom Cookout at the Shirley-Eustis House
BlackBrownBoston, The Shirley-Eustis House, and For Black Girls invite you to the third Annual Freedom Cookout in Roxbury, held at the historic Shirley-Eustis House from 11AM to 6PM.
This year’s cookout will honor the memory of 12 individuals who were once enslaved in Boston, while also celebrating the end of slavery in America and the richness of Black culture and community.
Date & Time: June 19th, 11AM–6PM
Location: Shirley-Eustis House, Roxbury, MA
Enjoy free food, a book fair, local vendors, and complimentary tours of the former governor’s mansion. Everyone is welcome to attend—bring your friends and family for a day of remembrance and celebration.
