Reason for Being
We empower the people of Massachusetts in the fight against tyranny in America, by fostering community, spreading truth, answering calls for aid, petitioning our elected officials, and organizing nonpartisan, nonviolent resistance efforts across the state.
Our Statement on Inclusivity
These are extraordinary times. The foundations of our democracy are under attack by an authoritarian movement that wants to eliminate people’s basic human rights.
We will not allow anyone to question or deny people's humanity. Trans rights are human rights. Immigrant rights are human rights. Compromising on either gives the fascist movement exactly what they want.
We are Americans, we are LGBTQIA+, we are people with disabilities, we are people of color, and we want to hear the voices of even more people from these and other communities. We are not going anywhere, and we will not leave anyone behind.
We are stronger together.
To win our fight for justice and equal opportunity, we have to build a big tent - and at times, this might mean cooperating with some who would not normally be our allies.
That doesn’t mean we compromise our values.
We welcome speakers and partnerships who share our opposition to the tyrannical, anti-American actions of the Trump administration – even when we disagree with them on other very important issues. Because, when we welcome public officials to our platform to tell their constituents how they are fighting fascism, we the people get to hold them accountable.

50501 stands for “50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Movement.” It originally stood for “50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Day,” but this is a movement we must keep going and thus the name evolved.

Originally, 50501 was a nationwide call to action on a single day: February 5th, 2025. In Boston, that rally had a great turnout and created space for people to come together in nonviolent solidarity against the destructive actions of the current federal administration. Soon after, several volunteers stepped up to start the Mass 50501 organization and we have been organizing locally across the state ever since. We are now a registered 501(c)(4) with hundreds of active volunteers.

The 50501 movement is grassroots and decentralized. The "National" team is not a formal entity, but a fluid group of people who coordinate efforts nationwide and provide resources like training and a website that serves as a hub for local actions. The national 50501 team suggests days of action and provides direction, but ultimately each local 50501 chapter charts their own path for organizing within their home communities.
Mass 50501 coordinates 50501-based efforts in Massachusetts. We collaborate and share resources and ideas with other 50501 chapters across the country, but the mission, goals, and actions of our group are decided by the Massachusetts team, and we will always seek to do what is best for the people here.

Mass 50501 is a non-partisan organization with no political backing. We are funded through donations from individuals and like-minded organizations who support our mission and activities. We are volunteer-run and have no paid employees.

The volunteers who run Mass 50501 are a diverse group of Massachusetts residents. Our leaders come from all walks of life, bringing with them diverse skillsets, backgrounds, and experiences. We are workers, leaders, parents, veterans, professors, artists, students, and so much more. We are multiracial and multicultural, representing the full breadth of the people of the United States that we are working to protect.

Mass 50501 works to unite the people of Massachusetts in the fight against tyranny and to support our communities and institutions in defending our rights and liberties.
We do this by organizing nonviolent resistance efforts (including marches, rallies, protests, community building events, and more), by spreading truth and information through free communication channels, and by coordinating with existing groups who are dedicated to advocacy and aid.

Mass 50501 works directly with the people of Massachusetts through grassroots efforts to reach not only existing activists but also all freedom-lovers who are alarmed by the rise of American tyranny and want to join the resistance.
To effectively fight the rise of American fascism, we recognize the urgent need to build a broad coalition of allies from across the political spectrum, including some who may differ on specific policy issues. We work with all individuals and organizations who seek to protect democracy and who share our vision and core values. We will not compromise in the fight for the rights and liberties of those who are most marginalized and directly targeted by tyranny in America, including but not limited to immigrant communities, queer and transgender communities, the disabled community, and our Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.
